you probably didn't use a correct terminfo (TeraTerm doesn't have 'bce'
support).

oddly enough, the Mutt FAQ doesn't mention XFree86 xterm, though the
"xterm-color" is that rather than color_xterm...

The XFree86 xterm supports ANSI color and VT220 emulation
