You can macro the "d" key so that instead of delete, it does
"save-message" into a folder called =trash, for instace.
macro index d <save-message>=trash<enter>
... or something like that (that's untested). You also probably want
to add the same macro to the pager too.
There won't be any automatic deletion of messages from =trash, you
have to set that up yourself somehow. Either visit the folder yourself
and delete everything with delete-pattern or something, or maybe set up
a cron job to periodically delete the contents, or whatever.
