So what do you get with

  :set ?editor

on both of the machines?  Are they identical?  Have you verified that
the command works by doing it manually from a shell?

Maybe you don't set $editor to anything in your .muttrc, in which case
the default is to use the environment variable VISUAL (or possibly,
EDITOR), which again could be different on the two computers.

In any case, whatever the reason, your editor is not running or is
exiting immediately.  Find out why. :)  (It's not really a Mutt
problem...)
