This happens to me sometimes too. I haven't got any real idea why,
although I suspect it's NFS-related. I use Maildir over NFS.
It might be helpful for anyone who tries to figure out (if anyone
will) if you also told what folder format these folders are in,
and whether you're using NFS or not.
