If read-only would work except that it's inconvenient, then just use 'x'
instead of 'q' to EXIT without changes instead of quitting as usual. I
use it on my inbox all of the time, since N and O and D mean different
things there...
Now, if you want to change your N flags to O, then you'll have to write
to the file, and I dunno how you'd tell it to ignore some messages in
some formats (like mh)...
