Do you use gcc-2.95.1 ("gcc -v") ? Then you should upgrade to
glibc-2.1.2, since gcc-2.95.x does not work very well with glibc-2.1.1.
Just to try it out, I compiled mutt-1.0pre3i and no error occured
while "Sorting mailbox ....".
Btw: glibc-2.1.2, gcc-2.95.1, binutils-2.9.1.0.25, slang-1.3.9.
