% hi,
%
% yes, I installed mutt as root. here is the ls -l o/p of /usr/local/bin
% where mutt is installed:
%
% (earth)ls -l /usr/local/bin
% total 3031
% -rwxr-xr-x 1 root other 3047603 Aug 28 19:01 mutt*
% -rwxr-sr-x 1 root mail 54665 Aug 28 19:01 mutt_dotlock*
%
% Also ls -l o/p of /var/mail/root is
% (earth)ls -l /var/mail/root
% -rwxrwxr-x 1 root mail 2694 Aug 28 19:04 /var/mail/root

Aha -- I didn't realize that you were root for this case. There
certainly shouldn't be any problem with permissions in this case :-)
Is your /var/mail remotely mounted, by the way?

%
% I still cannot delete mails from my mailbox. The same error "Mailbox is
% readonly"

This is all I can imagine...

%
% Also any hint on why mails cannot be sent with mutt? I can send mails
% using pine or elm.

Not yet; tell us more about your mail setup (sendmail, qmail, *) and
your sendmail variable in .muttrc and maybe even whether or not a user
can send/receive mail...

%
% Thanks in advance,
% Raju
