% Hi,
%
% I'm new to using Mutt and I wanted to use it to send mail from a web
% page.

An interesting start ...

%
% I can send a message including an attachment.

... with promising results.

%
% I've used a header file to set the From: field but how important are
% the message id's. CAn I just create a message id?

Here's where I get confused... Are you using a my_hdr command to set
the From: line, or are you trying to build the headers yourself for
feeding to sendmail (and so where does mutt come in?)? If you're
actually using mutt to send the mail, just let it create the message
ID (um, right?). I'm actually not sure whether mutt or sendmail
creates the message ID, in fact; I'd be inclined to think that it
would be sendmail, since it's handling the actual mailing...

%
% Or is there an easier way or setting the From: field. The web page is
% used by about 600 users so each time the From field will be
% different.

Well, you could define a my_hdr command that sets the From: field, but
it sounds vaguely like you're not actually using mutt. Since you say
you are, perhaps you could send on some more detail :-)

%
% I'd be pleased to hear from anyone who has had experience with this.
