[Replying outside the context of the bug...] Dear sirs,
You are talking past each other, and it is getting you nowhere. I think I can help a little: On Wed, Apr 26, 2017 at 04:50:44PM -0000, Mutt wrote: > It seems, we are still talking about 2 different things. once again: > EVERYTHING works, except the from address, if i change inbox using the > sidebar. I'm pretty sure you mean "mailbox" rather than "inbox" here... In internet mail, with a wide variety of mail systems, there is a concept of "inbox" which roughly equates to a singular mailbox to which all mail is initially delivered. Mutt does not generally have this, although the concept may apply indirectly depending on POP or IMAP servers you connect to and how they are configured. Each of those may have an "inbox" and that could be what you mean. While it's probably safe to assume you mean the more generic "mailbox"--of which Mutt may have many--I think Kevin is trying to be precise, so that he can make sure he understands you, and work on the right problem. > also, this has been working before. i didn't change my settings > since. so, the problem CAN'T BE IN THE SETTINGS! You're missing the point. Mutt's behavior is complex, and complex interactions in the code can be greatly affected and differentiated based on what exact settings you are using. If the person trying to work on your problem can't reproduce it with their own settings, then examining yours may be required to identify the cause of the problem. Software is like this. > and YES, i do feel uncomfortable, giving you my exact and sensible > private data. no matter if it is here or through email. even more > so, since i don't see a point in doing so. Here's where I need to be kind of direct: You are clearly not an expert in Mutt's behavior, nor in software development and support generally, so your inability to see the point is YOUR PROBLEM. You either want help or you don't--if you aren't willing to cooperate with the people trying to help you, you'll soon find they will stop trying to help you. Either answer the questions you're being asked, or go away. The point is it helps US narrow down where the problem is, so we can find exactly what it is, and get you the fix you need. You should naturally sanitize or remove any account names and passwords in your configs before you post or send them, and perhaps any e-mail addresses that appear in hooks (though e-mail addresses are not particularly sensitive, but may be considered private). There typically won't be anything else sensitive in your configs unless you're an advanced user doing something unusual... > no offense. but i'm constantly irritated by the logics of some > people. Frankly, you're the one who's not displaying any logic here. As someone who's worked extensively in both support and software development, I believe Kevin's questions are all completely sensible, and *required*, to help remotely troubleshoot the problem you're having. How does it help you to be impatient and rude to people who are trying to help you? -- Derek D.
