For the record: a fix has been pushed to Emacs master branch. The
problem was that Emacs' configure script was deducing the platform
triple from the output of MSYS2 `uname'. When MSYS was the x86_64
version but the Emacs build was targeting i686, the configure script was
not smart enough to detect the fact. Setting --build=... was a
workaround for the problem, as it avoids consulting `uname'.
