Hi, just read Rick's post. I am from LI, NY and I can remember having to travel 
out to Eastern LI to see a cardinal in the winter. They started their expansion 
in the mid 70's long before any mention of global warming. This has always been 
attributed to greater availability of food, both natural & from feeders. I just 
think the Audubon article is guilty of oversimplifying the issue of range 
expansion.
