You're getting the link shrinkage symptom... Release builds usually have Linking set to 'Sdk assemblies'. This strips 'unused' stuff to reduce the final package size. This can lead to reflection triggering exceptions for not finding a type or method or property. Try building a release with Linking set to 'None'. If the error disappears, you'll get your answer.
