Hmmm this sounds like the breaking change that was introduced in 4.2:
http://docs.xamarin.com/android/Releases/Mono_For_Android_4/Mono_For_Android_4.2#Breaking_Changes

"Due to the event listener change, we had to replace ItemEventArgs
which was used in some limited classes with
AdapterView.ItemClickEventArgs which is used everywhere applicable.
ItemEventArgs still exists, but since event signature has changed,
your delegate methods need to be changed as well. Use of type-inferred
lambda delegates should not be effected by this change."

I'd wager that the MWC.Droid app was done with the beta version of M4A
4.2, hence this sudden break.
