The project is not dead. I understand the project is exactly the same but the new Miguel's company is just started, so we have to wait for them to reorganize. I am pretty sure Miguel will let us know about MonoTouch/MonoDroid project, website, mailing lists, and obviously marketing details (and eventually student edition too).
