I have Luminition optronic on the Lotus Elan. It works OK but it's pretty
old school. It's the only electronic system I can use legitimately for the
rallies we do but I would use something more modern if I could. I have had a
failure of the opto module due to heat soak too - took me ages to find the
problem as it would disappear as soon as it cooled down again.

About 27 years ago I fitted a Lumenition electronic ignition system to my
1975 4/4. It has worked fine ever since. The points are removed and an
electronic eye and interupter unit replace them, so any wear in the shaft
is negated. I see that Lumenition is still available, so that probably
says a lot for it.
