Recent updates to the Android SDK included changes to the behavior of the emulator and introduced an incompatibility with the AVD used by 'mach android-emulator' -- bug 1289226.
A fix landed yesterday, but some people may need to force an update to their AVD before the emulator will work: - make sure you have https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/b614ddc26ff9 - mach android-emulator --force-update
