        Hurrah!  But the chroma's still aligned for 420PALDV rather than 
        MPEG2.

        Only if quality is unimportant and misaligned chroma planes are
        acceptable.  Most of the tools won't complain since the data planes are
        the same size - but the chroma won't be right.  Take a look at

        and you can see the difference between 420-MPEG2 and 420-PALDV

        I'll poke around when time allows (right now I've a couple new toys
