I'm note sure that I can answer on behalf of the wider windows community. 

There are a number of other video related project for windows which are open 
source, ie 
virtual dub and avisynth. These only support Microsoft Optimising Compiler. It 
would 
probably be good it mjpegtools had support for this same compiler. The problem 
for 
many windows users I suspect is the cost of the microsoft development system. 
If the 
downloadable toolset were able to be used for all three program sets then the 
interest 
may be more.

Having said that I have search the mjpegtools archive and not seen a clamour 
for such 
support in the last couple of years. 

Given the change from 1.6.2 to the CVS with removal of assembler files etc it 
would 
seem that the VC project files are likely to require substantial reworking and 
are certain 
not to work in there current form. 

I have a copy of the directory and at some point will examine the feasibility 
of getting the 
VC Toolkit working. If I do succeed I will certainly submit this for 
reinclusion. 

In short there would certainly be no objection from me if they were removed.
