POV-Ray, as with most computer graphic programs produce images with square pixels, whereas TV use non-square pixels. for PAL standard, the screen is 720 X 576 pixels, for both wide screen (16:9) or normal (4:3), the pixels are non-square to suit. When I create images for wide-screen use, I set the image to 1024 X 576. Therefore when generating images on computer, which generates square pixels, the image needs the pixels scaled to suit the TV display setup.
