I remember a kernel option In the 2.4.x Kernel ist was caled persistent
DMA Busser, where you could tell the kernel that it keeps some space
below 16MB free fro ISA cards. I haven't found that option in the ALSA
sound system but in the OSS it still exists maybe you give the oss a 2nd
try.

That would really point to a sound card problem for me.

BTW: The SB16 should have worked for more 10 years by now ? I still have
the bill from 1993 where I bought my SB-16 :)
The card is still working in my old computer which has some ISA slots.
But I don't record with that computer any more.

Fine that at least lavrec works properly.

We had that problem some time ago. Please take a look at the mjpeg-users
mailinglist. You should find some hints there.

What happens if you play them back with mplayer for example ?
