I remember a kernel option In the 2.4.x Kernel ist was caled persistent DMA Busser, where you could tell the kernel that it keeps some space below 16MB free fro ISA cards. I haven't found that option in the ALSA sound system but in the OSS it still exists maybe you give the oss a 2nd try.

I still have the bill from 1993 where I bought my SB-16 :) The card is still working in my old computer which has some ISA slots.
