        I see in that mail item you've automake 1.8.5 and libtool 1.5.6 and
        that's good.   What version of autoconf are you using?   A couple of the
        (non-warning) errors appear to be autoconf related.

        The DVD standards are $$$ and in essence are "licensed".

        The MPEG-2 standards are available (as is the original ISO reference
        implementation of the encoder) - a bit of Googling should turn them
        up somewhere.   Or a visit to a local library or technical bookstore ;)
