I seem to have hit a dead end. I can record from my camcorder, and I
can play it back. I can do basic editing. I have created an .m2v file
and matching .mp2 file. I have multiplexed them into an .mpg file and
it plays well in xine or totem. However, I want to be able to play it
on a hardware dvd player.

I have read, printed out and read again the instructions with dvdauthor,
but frankly I don't understand it. I got a title.jpg which I wanted to
show for 10 seconds while a .mp2 file played. After reading, it seemed
that I needed a .ppm file, so I saved it again (in Gimp) as a .ppm.

Following the instructions (or so I though) I attempted to change this
single file into a stream, using

ppmtoy4m -n 250 -r newbyhall.ppm

I was not happy with the command, as I would have thought it wanted
input and output parameters, but I decided that if it overwrote the
original file it would not be a big problem. In the event it appeared
to go into a loop, filling screen after screen with gobbledegook.

Is there anywhere a simplt-to-follow, step-by-step description of what I
need to do? For a start I'm quite happy with just this title screen
and accompanying sound, following by the main .mpg movie.

Anne
