I thought about that after I replied to the mail item.
The problem was not 100% the player's fault.
I do not have a widescreen TV. When I play a 16:9 DVD the
DVD player (and yes, it's a Philips ;)) will automatically
letterbox the video.
It seems that the Philips does not know how to letterbox 16:9
SVCDs though. The video would play but the aspect ratio was
wrong.
The MPEG-2 stream decoded fine - but not all players know how to
deal with SVCDs that are not 4:3
It is not important today because I just create a DVD ;)
