Are you sure? AFAIR you have a Philips DVD 724 (as I do) and AFAIR I saw in
Internet that it will play _NTSC_ 16:9 SVCD without any problems (but not PAL
ones).
I had some experiments with PAL SVCD 16:9 disks - player played them at 4:3
(though aspect ratio was correct, it just cropped left & right parts of the
image to convert 16:9 to 4:3).
