I make the patches always against the stock distribution version.

OK. My only problem is that I have a very slow internet connection at home (33

This is the way I do it. But I am only using the editing part. The other 
processing steps are done the usual unix way...

BTW. Do you know of a (separate) tool like wavelab on MS for preparing a 
better sound channel?
