The buz does not like -q 100. It is set in the driver to a lower value. 
On my machine it fails to (maybe because I have two encoding processes
running), but not with a kernel panic. Have you tried it with a lower
quality setting like -q 50 and then increase the -q value. 

The file will also get really big (1.8 GB for AVI) it only takes more
time ;)

BTW: One other cause why it does no panic, could be because I use the
2.6.0-test4 kernel.
