You're right, unfortunately. The list is open-to-all for postings. I can move it to restricted-to-members, which means you have to sign up to the list before sending messages. In the past, we didn't do this so people could send their questions even without subscribing. I basically agree with you and therefore propose to move it to restricted mode. Anyone against? I don't particularly like it, but I see little alternative.
