Hi,

I am trying to make VCD and SVCD vith mpeg2end but I have a nasty
behaviour from my VCD player model SABA 100E (I have only this to make
tests):

With VCD (and SVCD) made from DVD ripping, the disk doesn't start
when I put it into the player, neither automatically nor pressing the
play button; after some retries I was able to make it starting playing going
some frames forward (whith fast forward or stepping) and then pressing the
play button again; after that, the disk plays correctly.
This doesn't happen with VCD made from divx recording (home made
movies) and with windoze-made VCDs (they plays seamlesses from the
beginning). But if I convert ripped DVDs into divx and then into VCD, they
still don't plays at the beginning.

I've used transcode (both from command line and via dvd::rip) with
mpeg2enc as output encoder.

I made several tests changing all kinds of parameters in transcode and
in mpeg2enc without differences; also changing mplex with tcmplex
doesn't help (even SVCDs has the same behaviour).

Only using the transcode's builtin encoder mpeg (based on bbmpeg) i
can make working VCD, but the image quality is lower (almost with
standard settings). I hope to be able to solve this problem because I feel
better using mpeg2enc.

I know that the problem may come from my DVD player, but I feel that mpeg2enc
should behave at most like its windoze counterpart; maybe there are a little
difference in the file format, recognized only by few players.

I made two "one minute" VCD-compliant mpeg files extracted from the
same interval in the middle of a ripped DVD, one using transcode with
mpeg2enc,mp2enc and the other using transcode with the builtin mpeg encoder;
for both I used mplex as multiplexer: the latter works, the former
not. I am going to compare the two files for differences: anyone knows
any tools to help in this job (mpeg analyzer)? where can I find a good
description of the file format for mpeg1 streams?

Thanks in advance for any help,
Mauro
