Hi there. I'd first like to say the tools are wonderful, and I have used them many times for conversion and other stuff like that. Whilst doing this, I found glav to be an admirable cutter and resequencer for video. Being a veteran of Final Cut Pro, I was surprised to find glav had a very simple, but effective aproach to editing. Now, I don't own an mjpeg card- I have a bttv, but even on a fast machine, xawtv couldn't software encode at high enough quality+speed w/ good sync to satisfy me. I got a 1394 card, and it works fine. I use Kino with my ZR40, and it works fine for capture, when used with gscanbus, but editing with Kino is a very clunky, annoying excersise. The interface requires too much switching about and tricks/hacks to accomplish simple goals. The workflow is horrible. However, with some demo mjpegs, I found editing with glav was really easy. I have some ideas for a "timeline", or sequencer tool, to organize clips made with the "save selection" tool into a full movie, and merge them with lavtrans through a simple gui. Maybe even add transitions to the mix, and/or still image import (pipe dreams, I know!). However, I have hit a stumbling block- there seems to be no way to convert from dv (type 2 avi or otherwise) to mjpeg! dv2jpg, a nice script, is defunct. I was recommended by Kino people to use the SMILUtils to convert, but the fail all the time, and they don't seem to be able to pipe to a tool in the mjpegtools that would give me a file glav can read. Transcode and mencoder don't work either- transcode seems geared toward divx, and mencoder uses ffmpeg, which has a buggy mjpeg library. Is there any way to do this?
Thanks in advance,
Tyler
