        In this case I think that will be the case.   I ran the 2nd encoding
        run remotely and will view the results tomorrow.   Matt did mention
        less high frequency noise being introduced - which would be in line
        with the size of reduction observed tonight.

        It'll be interesting to hear what others report with y4mscaler.

        In _some_ cases it could well be an improvement.  Selective 
        blurring/smoothing is one of the tricks used, I'm told, to improve the 
        quality of movies that get released on DVDs.

        Much too depends, doesn't it, on the source material?
