Java does that a lot. I've had problems with java problems and needing
to have /etc/hosts modified (when of course anything sane worked
perfectly without it).

If anyone knows a good solution for that i would love to hear it. java
stuff that does networking + laptops where the ip changes often enough
are a painful combination
