I believe that these disks are SATA II
(http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=6278576e14ee9110VgnVCM100000
f5ee0a0aRCRD)
and thus would always fall under wd driver as per the man page.

I believe that sd is for scsi only. Is this assumption correct?
