Damn...  same thing.  No error message when attempting to boot.  I did
another "ps", "trace", and "boot dump", I uploaded what I saw here:

I took screenshots of what happened after I made the BIOS changes from
AHCI to IDE. They are 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.  The trace I did has
something about UDFSPOOFLAYER, which looked interesting.

I am including a new dmesg, since I noticed that the system uses PIO5,
UDMA4 on the drive.  This is different than when I use the AHCI, also,
when I did the boot dump, the drive kept getting transfer errors, and
dropping down to UDMA 4, then 3.  Funny thing was, while it was doing
this, I was able to press the button and eject the blu-ray disc.  I
don't believe it was mounted and locked.
