fwiw:

the .exe non-diskette versions of BIOS and embedded controller updaters
can be unpacked with cabextract to yield 1.44MB IMG files of bootable
IBMDOS floppies. When I did mine I think I burned them to el torito
CDs and booted from a USB CDROM, there are other ways too of course
(bootable DOS pen drive, USB FDD, etc).
