The *only* point you could successfully argue against Han's work is the possible dilution of results by the division of effort. The result of him working with other developers on the existing ports/package system may, or may not, result in a better over-all system. None the less, Han is free to work on whatever he wants. Han has been kind enough to share his efforts with you and everyone but instead of saying thanks, you tell him is work is an "idiotic waste of time." -Would you tell Theo his effort were an "idiotic waste of time" when he started OpenBSD? Would you say that to Henning when he started OpenBGPd? What about the start of pf, OpenNTPD, all various arch porting efforts, all the various hardware support efforts and all the other countless initial starts? Sure there are other well tested tools to deal with ports and packages but did you even stop to think there just might be a good idea or two tucked away inside Han's work? Han has the right to explore and experiment with his own ideas. Maybe one of his good ideas of his might eventually get transplanted or transformed into code you use on a daily basis. If that happens are you still going to call his efforts an "idiotic waste of time?" Even experiments that completely "fail" still have great value. If they didn't we'd still be looking for the luminiferous aether... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luminiferous_aether http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelson-Morley_experiment JCR -- Free, Open Source CAD, CAM and EDA Tools http://www.DesignTools.org
