Correct. bwfm-firmware would only be used there if you have a plug-in
USB bwfm(4) device.

The asahi installer copies files to vendorfw/firmware.tar on the EFI
Jartition, and the OpenBSD installer extracts them from there.

exactly. bwfm-firmware is not used for the onboard devices on arm64 Macs.
