Thank you for your help, Stuart.

I've tried booting 6.2 in the amd64, but that won't boot either, it just hangs:

Following the advice to do a clean install onto the new box, I did so, with
OpenBSD 6.2. The install seemed to go smoothly, initializing the disk and
fetching file sets. However, when booting it drops into ddb, although "show
panic" says the kernel did not panic.

Attached is a zip file containing text captures of the "dmesg" command (as
files dmesg-1.txt through dmesg-9.txt) and the "trace", "ps", and "show
 panic" commands (as trace-ps.txt).

I've included a copy of your dmesg and trace inline so others can read
it without unzipping the attachment, etc. (Also CC'd bugs@ because it's
likely to be missed on misc@).

It would be worth trying a -current snapshot on this before spending
more time on debugging. If that does indeed fixes things then you can
just run that and update to 6.3 when it's released. (Also I would
generally suggest running in 64-bit mode by using the amd64 version
rather than the i386 version of OpenBSD. The cpu supports it.)

If that doesn't help but the error is different, send a new trace.

Had those who drew and ratified the due process clauses of the 5th
Amendment or the 14th Amendment known the components of liberty in its
manifold possibilities, they might have been more specific. They did
not presume to have this insight. They knew times can blind us to
certain truths and later generations can see that laws once thought
necessary and proper in fact serve only to oppress. As the Constitution
endures, persons in every generation can invoke its principles in their
own search for greater freedom.
