Hi,

I have a T60 which is similar, everything seems to work well, noise level is acceptable. Of course while compiling or heavy browsing, I the fans spin, but but not soo bad. I have the ATi video card and run OpenBSD. I have some strange artifacts with the videocard with certain applications, but it is still usable. I do not have stability problems nor mouse/trackpad issues.

I have a second T60 with the Intel graphics, slightly slower CPU.. it runs much quieter and have no issues at all, although it runs FreeBSD. So if you don't need the graphics and are fine with Intel, you get less fan spinning.
