First, it would be better to start a new subject if it's not related to
the original post.
Squid need lot of disk space to be efficient and write a lot on the
disk, same for samba. I would not install those on a compact flash.
Maybe something like a Lanner FW-7535 would be better. Those support
both compact flash and sata hard drive if you want to install the os on
a compact flash and leave the hard drive from squid/samba. Also, the
gigabit ethers would be better for samba files transfer.
Also, it's hard to tell if a alix performance is enough without knowing
how much user, bandwith and PPS. I not familliar with alix performance
on openbsd but maybe the're someone that already posted about this. I
know that some writted that the were using them, have you should search
on marc.info about alix performance ?
