I have been having really good luck with the TP-Link powerline adapters
for this type of lan extension.
Been using the TP-LINK TL-AV200s. I've run into issues with smart GFI
outlets in the garage on higher end homes but in the house haven't had
any issues.

Interface->wireless->WDS and set to dynamic will probably get you there.
