Mesa's llvmpipe software renderer seems to be doing pretty well at improving 
the case for software rendering, with an sse3 capable cpu. Not sure how this 
would perform on your typical ATOM N270 or ARM/NEON box though. It might be 
good enough, considering it can play quake3
