Many of our physicians have been using EMR notes for a couple of years.
They typically cut and paste from the previous day's note and then make
changes. It certainly makes them much easier to read. We will turn PCM
on in a few months (too many bugs/missing features in our current
version, C/S 5.5.2) and then give them individually the choice of using
EMR Notes or PCM. Since all physicians are not entering notes, we print
all notes at 4 am and 4 pm to put in the paper chart. We have a hospital
goal of all physicians entering notes online by the end of May 2008. We
are also rolling out Dragon/Nuance speech recognition for the non-typing
physicians. One physician has been using it ½ year for EMR Notes and it
works fine, even when he dictates in the unit hallways.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Physician Documentation Using EMR Notes

Our physicians have requested our organization to support the use of
the EMR notes selection for documenting their daily progress notes. I
was hoping to find an organization that has entertained this request and
if so, what was the end result? Did you support this request? Did you
have any compliance issues/concerns? What is the impact of having
physicians document in the notes selection of the EMR and then move
toward with PMO?
