We sent LAB, MIC and PTH results to another vendor via the HL7 interface. In
Meditech's interface you have 2 choices on how you would like to send the
results: discrete or text format. I chose to send MIC and PTH as text
results. LAB has to go as discrete results. I didn't want all of the
organism ID results, etc to go to the OV, so they essentially got the final
report. It worked just fine.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Micro Results to Physician Practice EMR

Morning,

We are in the process of sending Lab and Micro results to a few physician
office EMR's. Labs are going across fine, it's the micro results I have a
question on.
In the HL7 data, all prompted ID procedures that are resulted when
identifying organisms are included. I specifically sent instructions to the
physician's EMR vendor on what to look for in the data, but I don't think
they get it. When they bring it into their system they post every result
that's in an OBX segment, this includes all the ID testing results (i.e.
Growth on certain plate, lactose test, etc). In addition, even though I
sent the organism mnemonics and names, they are only applying the mnemonic
as the organism ID in their system.

I was assuming (unfortunately) that the vendor interface would set up their
side to only accept those results that I indicated when sending them the
test info. They, however expect us to edit the HL7 before sending ( no
engine right now, one's coming). How do others handle micro results to
physician office EMR's?
