Joseph, we have lots of VLAN's and have no issues. As long as you make
sure that your devices on the VLAN can see the DHCP server (and
Meditech) your ok. So, in our case, we have a number of devices that
need both the specialized service on their VLAN and Meditech so they are
on multiple VLAN's.

Also, in our DHCP/DNS setup, we do not assign static addresses to PC's
(only to Printers, Lab interface devices, networking devices) so it
doesn't matter if the PC's lease is up and it asks for another IP.
Meditech works fine with NETBIOS name resolution.

Following is our IP range breakdown policy for any devices on the
various subnets we have around the region.

IP Range Breakdown (x.x.x.1-255):

*1-10 Servers

*11-99, starting at 11 Printers

*99-11, starting at 99 down Other Devices & Diagnostic Equipment

*100-239 PC's Dynamic Pool

*240-254 Networking Devices

Joseph, on your warning, I'm not following. When you use netbios
resolution, the IP address does not matter. Once the PC tries to connect
to MAGIC, Magic will then ask the PC its name and once the PC replies
with the name magic looks it up on its termserver/PC table name. When it
finds it then the PC connects.

Julie,
If your network administrator is NEVER going to setup V-LAN's
then it shouldn't be a problem. Once a device is connected via DHCP it
will show up in the remote host I/P addresses (from main menu #10, #15).
You would then have to go under your normal option #20 to add pc for
TELNET EZ. When you key in the pc name it's going to automatically pick
up the DHCP address for you. WARNING(Your network administrator would
have to "TURN-OFF" re-assigning DCHP after so many days or it will
re-assign a different DHCP address). That would become a nightmare.

We are currently using static IP addresses for our computers and
entering this information in Meditech under EXT.OPS, 1.System
Information, 20. Enter/Edit Termservers, PCs, RemoteHosts with the
Model? being TELNET EZ. Our new network administrator wants to go to
DHCP. How is everyone else operating? Static IP or DHCP? If we switch
to DHCP what do we have to do to make Meditech work? We are currently
MAGIC 5.4 but will be upgrading to 5.6.1 this year.
