HCGH is part of Johns Hopkins Medicine, an organization that includes
three (3) hospitals, home care, physician practices, and other
healthcare related entities. Currently, each entity within Johns Hopkins
Medicine has very distinctively different IT environments and
vendors/solutions represented and deployed.

One of the current enterprise-wide IT initiatives is the establishment
of a Single Patient Identifier (SPI) that could either replace each
individual entity's current medical record number or be in addition to.
In either case, the SPI would be similar in concept to an enterprise
master patient index (EMPI) number, which would assist in identifying
common patients across the enterprise. The EMPI solution would need to
be able to integrate with disparate patient registration and scheduling
systems, to allow for patient searches and selections.

If any other healthcare provider organizations have implemented a
similar concept to the SPI, where disparate vendors/systems had to
interface with it, I would be interested in hearing from you -
particularly, if MEDITECH was in the mix. I thank you in advance for
your consideration and responses.
