For each of our units, we created "overflow" beds. All of our rooms start with "S", and then the 3 digit room number, which is based on their floor. For example, our Telemetry unit is on the second floor, so all of the rooms start with a 2; 260, 261, etc... In Meditech, we built them as S260, S261, etc... (We had another facility when we went live with Meditech.)
For our "overflow" rooms/beds, we start them with "S9....". They have the same room accommodations assigned as their associated units, but they are unlicensed. This allows us to admit these patients. Of course Pharmacy has to also build these beds, and know the true location, or you won't get your medications, but it works very well for us.
We are c/s, but I would think this would work the same for Magic.

Hello Everyone,
How do other facilities handle additional admits to a specific unit when the unit is at full capacity? How do you register patients when all of your licensed beds in a unit are occupied? Occasionally, we will have more patients in one unit than we have licensed beds and we are unable to get the patient registered because we do not have a bed in that unit to admit the patient to. This happens most often in our maternity unit as we have 10 licensed beds and sometimes all 10 beds are full and another patient will come in. Thankyou very muchfor your help.
