another option would be to configure a dedicated dump device (again, using 'dumpadm'), thereby saving the dump on the dump device from being overwritten during reboot. You can then run the 'savecore' command at a later time, when you've cleaned up /var/crash/<hostname> or simply use a different target directory for the savecore command.
