Geez, I have been holding back making comments on this several times, but think 
I just have to say my piece.

Yeah, mdb is shipped, but Scat/fm is available for download from www.sun.com, 
so 
it is sorta a moot point.    I can not emphasize how difficult working with mdb 
  is relative to working with Scat/fm - at least for me.  I would almost go as 
far as to say I really dislike the terseness of mdb.

That said, both mdb and scat/fm have their own positives for different people, 
and I think it is fortunate that we do have divided efforts on these debuggers. 
  That way each person can choose their own debugging preference and use that. 
It is sorta like the argument over which is better, vi and emacs.  I HATE vi, 
and only use it under extreme circumstances.
