Yesterday someone was asking about making a hole in a firewall for a
particular machine. I forgot who that was and I already deleted the
message....but...something I have done in the past was to use TIS firewall
toolkit in conjunction with ipmasq.
TIS firewall toolkit allows you to make a "hole" on your firewall for a
specific machine, or a specific port on said machine if you so desire. I used
it because I had a private machine running a MUD on a port and I wanted people
to be able to telnet to it without the hassles of the firewall. It's all
transparent to the user telnetting in (they telnetted to the firewall
(xxx.yyy.com:98765) and upon getting there, it redirects them to the private
machine behind the firewall (192.168.3.451:98765) within a fraction of a
second.
TIS toolkit is available for free from Trusted Systems (www.tis.com). It
lacks certain things that the paid version has, but if all you need is a
firewall with host/port redirection, then all you need is the toolkit.
