I can confirm that IP Masq'ing does work with Red Hat 5.1, at least. I'd
recommend checking the value of IP Forwarding in /etc/sysconfig/network, and
make sure it's set to 'yes' or 'true.' If you had to set it to yes or true,
you'll have to restart the inetd, I believe.
When I first started up, that network config file was the main thing that
nailed me. Another something to watch out for is to make sure the MRU/MTU
of your PPP link is set to 1500, or else you'll suffer horribly frustrating
connect problems to some sites.
Make sure to check the ipfwadm configuration to make sure your entries in
rc.local are taking. ipfwadm -F -l should show what's currently set.
